Have you even heard about the cold frame? This kind of gardening has its fame after the noted organic farmer Eliot Coleman released his book which is related to this gardening type. But just in case some of you don’t know yet what is this cold frame? The cold frame is a raised bed with a transparent lid which makes sunlight penetrating. We can control the box temperature by raising or lowering the lid. To get the growing season extended, we can get the bed lowered or raised. Here I will show you the cold frame plans just in case you want to have one at your garden.
a. Picking the best spot which has abundant sunlight.
b. Deciding the cold frame’s dimension. The popular one is around 3 x 6 feet/ 4 x 8 feet, just pick the one which fits your need the best. It has should be 8 inches height at least. You have to know that if you prefer the small frame, it would be hard to get the middle reached.
c. Now you can get the two sides and two ends of the lumber measured as well as cut. Get the ends fastened to the sides using galvanized brackets.
d. Get the 8 foot sides reinforced at the 4 foot point by getting a wooden stake pounded into the ground. If You have 6 foot sides get them reinforced with 3 foot point.
e. Get shims added to both ends’ top. By doing this will allow the precipitation to get the lid shed off when bad weather comes.
f. Then after that, create two lids per cold frame with half size of the cold frame which has been created.
g. Once you have finished the raised bed, get it filled with soil and organic soil amendments that you have planned to use.
